If you are hosting an event this summer, you probably already know how essential your lighting will be. But with the nights getting warmer, and lighter, you should also be considering outdoor lighting. Whether you light the external entrance path to your venue, or you illuminate an outdoor seating area, you could really transform your event, and your space, with the right lighting. Here at Light Design Ltd, we provide high quality lighting design solutions, as well as equipment, to help make sure your event has the right atmosphere, and is a success. This includes outdoor lighting.
So what type of lighting is suitable for outdoor lighting at your event? And what kind of effect should you be aiming for? Well, there are a number of different lighting options you could choose from, including:
- GOBO projection
- Uplighting
GOBO projection for outdoor lighting
GOBO lights have been dominating the events and lighting industry for the past two years. These are essentially a metal or glass disk, which is positioned over a light. This metal or glass disk can be etched with the pattern or design of your choice, or simply one from a catalogue. Once the disk is positioned over the light, the pattern will be projected onto whichever surface this is facing. So if you have a tent or a marquee, you can project patterns and colours onto the walls of this, to really create a point of visual interest. Or you could opt to highlight the natural features outside your event, or even the architectural points on your venue building.
GOBO lights can also be etched with company logos, so you can even add some more advertising to your event too.
The distance your GOBO lights will project too in the dark, will be reduced outside and in natural light, so this might be something to consider.
Uplighting the exterior of your venue
Uplighting is a way of lighting upwards, from the ground up. This can create dramatic and stunning lighting effects for any event. Either outside or in, uplighting is a popular choice. But for lighting outdoors, uplighting can bring a range of benefits, including:
- grabbing attention with unusual lighting- you could consider uplighting architectural features to create a bold, dramatic effect. Or you could choose to uplight outdoor trees, signposts, or pop up information boards. Either way, this form of lighting will be sure to direct attention.
- adding coloured lighting outside- uplighting is available in a range of colours, so you can tie the outside of your venue to the inside, with the same colour scheme. This helps to create a natural flow, inside and out.
- battery operated- if you are concerned about wires, or you dont have any sockets outside, then you could instead opt for battery operated uplights. These will ease any health and safety concerns you might have.
