Well, here at Light Design, we are leading event lighting and design professionals. And this is our guide to help you get the most out of your video wall, and avoid potential problems.
What are the most common video wall mistakes?
So, there are several common video wall mistakes that are made across the industry, from large multi-national events, to small local gatherings. These include:
- Using a video wall in an impractical position
- Not optimizing the on screen content
- Choosing a video wall that is an inappropriate size
Using a video wall in an impractical position
When choosing a video wall for your event, you probably had a particular purpose for it in mind. Whether that was to illuminate the back of the stage, or to greet guests in the entrance, whatever your aim, it is important to use the video wall in a position where it can be easily seen from a range of angles and places across the venue. Some impractical positions include:
- Within narrow corridors- in a narrow corridor it is impossible for your guests to step back to see the video wall at full effect. This means that your guests may not pay much attention to it, or that the content displayed will not e clearly visible.
- At the upper height of walls- if you position your video walls at a height that is above comfort height, the chances are that your guests won’t pay too much attention to your investment.
Not optimizing the on screen content
The content displayed on the screen is one of the most important things to consider. Depending on the size of the screen, you may need to resize your content for this to be displayed clearly, with no fuzz or blur on such a large screen. This is the same for any text on the screen which will look out of place if this is not designed to fit effectively within the screen size. Failing to optimize the on screen content can lead to an unprofessional finish overall, and can render your video wall effectively useless.
Choosing a video wall that is an inappropriate size
The size of the video wall is also something that you should seriously consider. Video walls that are too small will not attract as much attention, and they can look out of place in large venues. They also cannot display as much content as you might need. At the same time, video walls that are over-sized for small venues can be overpowering and difficult to see.
